Stratified random sampling was used to select the participants for the study. Strata were divided into, Inpatients and outpatients. From each stratum 30% of participants were selected using simple random sampling technique. A total of one hundred and twenty-four (124) patients participated in the study. A questionnaire on effects of UHC on health and welfare was developed by the researcher for the study. Pilot study was done to ensure validity and reliability of the research instrument. Simple Linear regression was used to analyze effects of UHC on health and welfare of Makueni residents. The research established that the achievement of UHC in Mobeni sub-county had played a significant role in enhancing the economy of the region by ensuring that the residents are able to set aside funds to cater for their needs. It has also alleviated poverty and contributed to the sustainable development of the region. Additionally, the implementation of UHC was vital in enhancing job opportunities since it attracted individuals with the needed skills. The UHC programmer played a fundamental role in alleviating the suffering of the people of Mobeni sub-county. The study concluded that Universal Health Care ultimately guarantees financial protection by providing a shield against the catastrophic and impoverishing consequences of out-of-pocket expenditure. The research recommendations of the study were that the programmed needed to involve local communities as a means of achieving true accountability and ensure real access to information. It is recommended that the money allocated to the health sector and how it is spent should be accounted for to the communities. It was also recommended that the capital expenditure should be focused on enhancing the quality of healthcare by building new facilities or purchasing equipment to care for more people in the future. It is also recommended that the system should primarily invest in and direct resources towards building the capacities of the public health sector, not in creating opportunities to generate private profits. Since this was a case study, another study should be conducted for all the hospitals of Makueni County. One of the major challenges is related to the human resource aspect, specifically the turnover intention of highly skilled technical staff. Leadership practices have a significant effect on the turnover intention of technical staff working in Kenyan schedule operating passenger airlines. So, the main objective of the study is to examine how leadership practices affect technical staff turnover intention. A descriptive survey design was used as a research design for the study. A total of 335 respondents were selected using proportionate stratified sampling technique from the target population of 2058 technical staff working in the 12 airlines that operate schedule passenger flight in Kenya. To determine the sample size Yamane's formula was used. Open and close ended questionnaires were used to collect data. For the analysis and presentation of the data, the researcher used descriptive and inferential statistics. To analyze the effect of the independent variable (leadership practices) on the dependent variable (technical staff turnover intention) and to test the hypothesis, a multiple regression model was used. The major findings of the study established that leadership practices significantly influence technical staff turnover intention in Kenyan schedule operating passenger airlines. The study concludes that the presence of acceptable leadership practices will have a positive contribution in curbing the turnover intention of technical staff. As the world attempts to navigate through this difficult time, most companies are struggling to maintain a steady flow of required goods and services as well as maintain a stable financial position. This has necessitated a study into the business continuity in organizations in this current era. The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of Covid-19 on business continuity in Ghana while bringing into perspective the role the Government plays in easing the crisis. A descriptive survey design was used to solicit information from the employees of ten (10) companies in Ghana. Thirty (30) employees from these selected companies were sampled for interviews. The instrument used in this study was an interview guide. The research approach adopted for this study was the qualitative approach. Multi-stage sampling procedures involving both Purposive and simple random sampling were used to obtain data from a sample size of 30 employees. The study findings indicated that organizations face several challenges such as altering in the channel of distribution bringing in additional cost on technology and skills, drastic reduction in cash flows leading to inability to meet the companies' financial obligations to their suppliers and employees. The findings also suggested that the government has come up with various policies to ease the impact of the CoVOC-19 crisis. However, the respondents still expect the government to coordinate with the organizations to curb the problem. Practically, this study recommends that the government should explore opportunities focused on making conditions of trade flexible in responding to arising uncertainties.Item PUBLIC SECTOR REFORMS AND COMPLIANCE WITH PUBLIC SERVICE ETHICS IN THE COUNTY GOVERNMENTS OF KENYA(management university of africa, 2020-11) David K. M'Mugamb; Dr. Washington Okeyo,PhD; Dr. Magdalene Muthoka, PhDPublic sector reforms were intended to change public service to be more responsive to citizen needs and ensure ethical service delivery. The aim of this paper is to discuss the impact of public sector reforms on compliance with public service ethics at the devolved County Governments of Kenya. The study is based unsystematic review methods to discuss the rationale, drivers, achievement, challenges and the general lessons learned and whether the reform has any effect on public service ethics compliance. Results showed that in the last thirty years, many countries especially in Africa adopted reforms with varied outcomes and impact on public service ethics compliance. The reviewed literature has also revealed that implementation of public sector reforms is considered more important for reengineering the public service than compliance with public service ethics. Moreover, several barriers including the changing reform paradigm are well documented globally, regionally and nationally. In Africa and Kenya in particular literature on reforms is generally inconclusive on the impact of reforms on compliance with public service ethics. In addition, the review has identified some important theoretical, conceptual and methodological drawbacks in previous studies that restrict generalization of results to particular contexts such as County Governments. The recommendation is made for further research focusing on the relationships between strategic leadership and reform implementation and employee commitment to public service ethics compliance.
