OPEN TENDERING AND ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO PROCUREMENT EFFICIENCY IN COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF KENYA: CASE STUDY OF NAIROBI CITY COUNCIL, DEPARTMENT OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT.

Abstract

The study aimed at open tendering and its contributions to procurement efficiency at the county of Nairobi. The Main objective is to find the extent in which open tendering is carried out, challenges faced by procurement professionals and the indicators of procurement efficiency. The study adopted a descriptive research design. It targeted thirty-five employees of Nairobi city county who included; procurement chief officers, procurement officers, store heads, store supervisors, store administrators, store keepers, store inspectors and store clearance clerks. The study will be done at Nairobi city county Government, Department of supply chain management. Since the population was small with 35 employees, the researcher used sampling where the entire population participated in the study. The instruments for data collection were questionnaires, and for this case were closed ended questionnaires. The researcher also used interviews and observation. Random sampling techniques was used to collect data. Due to the number of headcounts in the county, the sample population was based in a one on one with the employees. The data was then analyzed by the use of tables, pie charts and bar graphs. These methods were employed to determine the relationship between the demographic groups and the responses on various variables.
