Item A STUDY TO DETERMINE THE IMPACT OF EMPLOYEE RELATIONS ON ORGANIZATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY IN PRIVATE SECTOR IN KENYA A CASE STUDY OF I &M BANK, HEAD OFFICE KENYA.(management university of africa, 2021-09) EUCABETH KAGENDOThis research dealt with the most pressing issues facing most organizations today in the need to raise employee performance and organizational productivity. I&M Bank were selected because the employees were not so much interested with the organization productivity neither did the employees do anything that would have helped in increasing the organization profits. There is a widespread belief that productivity improvements can only be achieved through a fundamental reform in the area of employee relations. Therefore, it's worthwhile to study the Problem of the impact of employee relations on organizational productivity in a broader sense. This mainly deals with the impact of employee relations on organization productivity by Identifying and understanding the relationship between the independent variables of key indicators of organizational productivity. Responses gathered from the staff were analyzed to bring out findings, conclusions and recommendations for this study. In relation to this study, the descriptive design research was chosen as the appropriate one. Data was gathered from both primary and secondary sources of information. Data was collected by use of questionnaires and reliability of research instruments was tested using test-retest technique and validated by experts in the academic research. Stratified random sampling and simple random sampling was used to collect the sample size of 28 respondents. The data was analyzed and collected by descriptive statistics; simple frequencies and percentages. From the research findings it was concluded that there is a strong positive relationship between the independent and dependent variable which indicate a greater impact from employee relations towards the overall productivity. The most valuable recommendation given is to treat employees with great care.Item CHALLENGES FACING MANAGEMENT OF PENSION SCHEMES IN STATE CORPORATIONS IN KENYA: A CASE STUDY OF THE KENYA PORTS AUTHORITY PENSION SCHEME.(management university of africa, 2024-01) MAGETO CAROLYNE.A pension scheme serves as a tax-efficient retirement savings plan, offering individuals the opportunity to save during their working years and receive income upon retirement. Unfortunately, issues of misappropriation and mismanagement have been observed in various pension schemes, including the Kenya Ports Authority Pension Scheme. This research focuses on exploring the challenges encountered in the management of pension schemes, specifically delving into the Kenya Ports Authority Pension Scheme and its workforce of twenty employees. The research employs a survey method to scrutinize aspects such as management structures, investment decisions, adherence to government policies, and responses to economic volatility, all crucial for the effective operation of the pension scheme. Both qualitative and quantitative data was gathered using questionnaires, interview schedules, and document analysis. The outcomes and recommendations derived from this study aim to contribute significantly to the enhancement of management structures and the formulation of well-informed decisions. Additionally, the research seeks to understand the challenges faced by formal pension schemes, like the Kenya Ports Authority Pension Scheme, in adapting to the socio-economic characteristics of informal workers. It also aims to evaluate the financial sustainability of social security schemes in Kenya, with a specific focus on the hurdles encountered by pension systems. Furthermore, the study explores the potential for pension schemes to facilitate access to affordable housing, highlighting the Kenya Ports Authority Pension Scheme's pioneering role in this domain. Legal cases and regulatory notifications related to pension scheme management, including those involving the Kenya Ports Authority Pension Scheme, will also be examined as part of the research.Item CORRELATION BETWEEN DEPRESSION LEVEL AND THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN KISII COUNTY, KENYA A CASE STUDY OF KISII UNIVERSITY(management university of africa, 2023-11) EMILY MORAA NYAMWEYAThis study's primary goal was to examine the correlation between depression level and the use of social media among university students in Kisii County, Kenya. A case study of Kisii University. The specific objectives of the study, to find out the correlation between forms of social media use and level of depression among university students in Kisii County, to examine the correlation between frequency of social media use and level of depression among university students in Kisii County and to investigate the correlation between functions of social media use and level of depression among university students in Kisii County. For this study, a descriptive research approach was adopted. 14,000 students enrolled in courses at Kisii University's main campus located in Kisii County were the focus of this investigation. The number of samples was determined by taking 10 per cent out of which 100 respondents were obtained. The tools for gathering data were questionnaires. Prior to the inquiry, a trial investigation was conducted to test the survey's accuracy. Quantitative statistics was classified and statistical descriptions, such as tables with frequencies and percentages, were used to better explain the information, while qualitative statistics was scrutinized to determine the responses from respondents that are relevant to the research topic. The data was analyzed using the SPSS to produce the tables and figures. The investigation found a connection between the use of social media platforms, frequency of social media uses as well as functions of social media use and depression levels. The outcomes of this investigation recommend that college students should track how long they use on the internet and media and on their own project. The study suggests that students should seek out amusement outside of social media, create offline academic groups, and communicate one-on-one with them friends. The study was guided by the following specific objectives: To establish effects of strategic planning practices on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County, to determine the effects of innovative strategy on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County, To find out the effects of strategic leadership on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County and to determine the extent to which strategy evaluation on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County. The literature review indicated that’s that lot of research has been done on strategic planning in sampled state corporations but the researcher has found none is a publicly available survey focusing on a number of state corporations rather most researchers have chosen corporations for a case study and this makes their findings prone to errors associated with low sampling. The target population of this study consisted of 126 employees of Kenya Ports Authority in Nairobi County. The researcher will use 30% of the target population to obtain a sample size of 38 respondents. Questionnaires will be administered to employees who will be selected using the convenient sampling technique. The secondary data will be gathered from reading books, journals that contain information that is related to effects of office conflict management on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority. The qualitative data from secondary sources will be analyzed using content analysis and logical analysis techniques. The techniques of analysis and interpreting data such as: Tabulation, Bar graphs, Pie charts and Percentage will be used to present the findings. The findings of the study revealed that strategic planning influenced Kenya Ports Authority organizational performance positively. These findings were supported by the frequencies of the responses from the respondents which were presented in the form of percentages and mean scores. Further the finding was supported by the coefficient of determination (R square = 0.623) which shows that 62.3% of variations in organizational performance are explained by strategic planning. The study concluded that through implementation of the strategic planning, Kenya Ports Authority in Nairobi County has increased their potential of improving organizational performance. The study recommended that the management of Kenya Ports Authority should incorporate strategic planning practices in their organization. This will help in the development of strategies to match their long-term goals in the organization.Item FACTORS AFFECTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SMALL AND MEDIUM - SIZED ENTERPRISES (SMEs) IN STAREHE CONSTITUENCY, NAIROBI COUNTY(management university of africa, 2021-06) DAISY JELAGAT KOMENSmall and medium business ventures around and within Nairobi County have experienced little growth in size. Close to half of the businesses fail after operating for a short while. This kind of failure unfortunately does not only affect new players; it also affects old and already established businesses hence the purpose of this study examined the factors affecting establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County. The study was guided by the following specific objectives; to determine the effects of access to capital on establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County, to explore the effects of government support on establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County and to determine the effects of managerial skills on establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County. This study was anchored by the following theories; Resource Based View and Positive Accounting Theory. The research design for this study was descriptive research design. The target people of the study consisted of SMEs taxpayers in Starehe, Nairobi County. This population was targeted to give comprehensive information that was significant for analysis and explanation of the data. The study population comprised of 373 SMEs within Starehe, as per the Nairobi County register. The sampling technique that was used in this study is stratified random sampling. The researcher used questionnaire as a tool for data collection. The questions presented to the respondents were closed ended questions. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. This study used both primary and secondary statistics, also used quantitative and non-quantitative methods to conduct the analysis of the results. The data analysis procedure involved the use of quantitative techniques whereby the information to be dealt with was derived from the questionnaires. The quantitative technique was used in employing statistical methods such as the ones listed below: The following techniques of analysis and interpreting data were used: Tabulation, Bar graphs, Pie charts and Percentage. Multiple regression analysis was used to establish the factors affecting establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County. The findings revealed that Access to capital has a positive influence on Establishment of SMEs in Starehe in Nairobi County. The results showed that Government support practices have a moderate influence on Establishment of SMEs in Starehe in Nairobi County. Majority of the respondents agreed that Managerial skills had a negative influence on Establishment of SMEs in Starehe. The study concludes that Access to capital, Government support and Managerial skills have significantly affected Establishment of SMEs in Starehe in Nairobi County. This study recommends that the central government work with private sector financial providers to address the challenges facing SMEs in terms of access to finance. The role of government funding in resolving the financial crisis facing SMEs is a matter of controversy that needs to be thoroughly investigated. It is therefore important to examine the effectiveness of the electoral system in Kenyan literature and to look at the progress made in promoting fiscal reform by SMEs.Item FACTORS AFFECTING THE MARKETING OF DAIRY PRODUCTS: A CASE STUDY OF SPIN KNIT DAIRY LIMITED(management university of africa, 2022-11) KENNETH WILFRED KATHURIMA MBAYAThe purpose of this study was to determine factors affecting the marketing of dairy products concerning Spin Knit Dairy Limited. This study was guided by objectives which were to determine the effects of quality, government policy, storage capacity, and market structure on marketing. This research brings out the comparison of another research studies done on this topic. The research independent variables show the gaps that exist between the past studies and the room that requires further study. The critical review of the research indicates the major concept behind the determinants of the independent variable. The target population size of 120 employees was targeted from which a sample size of 60 was chosen. The research adopted a descriptive research design, and the data was collected mainly from primary sources namely interview schedules and administering questionnaires. The research used open-ended and closed-ended questions in carrying out the research. A stratified random sampling technique was used as it gave an equal chance for each element to be chosen. A stratified technique was chosen due to the heterogeneous nature of the elements of the sample size. The data analysis procedure applied a qualitative and quantitative technique that involved descriptive statistical methods namely percentages and frequencies. In the findings, it was noted that storage capacity that is required in facilitating the marketing of material, and staff training developed by marketers gives an upper hand to be awarded the materials. Market structure minimizes the cost of maintenance and repair of products. Government policy provides the guidelines to be followed in the industry. Future researchers should research the wider applicability of achieving excellence principles on the make-up and management of market activities.Item FACTORS INFLUENCING INTERNAL WORK ENVIRONMENT ON WORK PERFORMANCE IN PARASTATALS IN KENYA: A CASE STUDY OF KENYA POWER AND LIGHTING COMPANY(management university of africa, 2023-05) HENRY WAMBUAThis study sought to investigation on factors influencing internal work environment on work performance in parastatals in Kenya. A case study of Kenya power and lighting company. The specific objectives were to determine how Organizational structure influences internal work environment at Kenya power and lighting company, to establish how social support influences internal work environment at Kenya power and lighting company, to access how Fringe benefits influence internal work environment at Kenya power and lighting company and to establish how Work politics influences internal work environment at Kenya power and lighting company. The research enables the management on working out the issues on internal work environment. The research enables the policy makers to come up with a viable and focused strategy that can help public university in internal work environment. The study generated empirical data and information beneficial to the Government and the University level. This study adopted a descriptive approach; this is because the approach gives more in-depth information suitable for this kind of study. Descriptive survey design enabled the researcher to determine the nature, state and factors influencing internal work environment in parastatals in Kenya.127 employees in Kenya power and lighting company Offices who constituted the target population. A sample size of the 30% of the population was used to give a total sample of 38 respondents. Stratified random sampling involves dividing your population into homogenous subgroups and then taking the simple random sample in each subgroup. The data collection instruments were questionnaire constituting both closed and open-ended questions. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics mainly frequencies and percentages. Data was presented using pie charts, histograms and tables. 79% of the employees admitted that organization structure influenced their performance in their company. This clearly made the researcher conclude that organization structure really influenced a big percentage of employees in Kenya power and lighting company.74% of the employees felt that they were certainly taken care of by the company .53% thought that not all the time are the fringe benefits honored. This could be influenced by the company honoring some employees with fringe benefits all the time while others not all the time. Majority of the respondents 34% said that training was on yearly basis. This showed a large group of employees undertook the training their training on yearly basis. The researcher concluded that the working conditions are attached with employees’ job involvement and job satisfaction that ultimately leads to better performance of the employees. The researcher concluded that there is a positive relationship between organization communication, organizational commitment and job performance. The researcher concluded that factors in the internal work environment particularly; the job-related pressures also have their negative effect on labor productivity. The researcher concluded that organizational politics influence majority of the middle and lower-level employees and at very higher level. The researcher recommended that the organizational structure should be able to adjust to the internal work environment since it highly influences the performance of the organization. The researcher recommended that there should be strict supervision as an approach that would increase the productivity levels. The researcher recommended that both management and workers of enterprises should be considerate of work environment as having a great influence on productivity of workers. The researcher recommended that perceptions of organizational politics have strong, positive relationship with strain and turnover intention and strong, negative relationships with job satisfaction and effective commitment. The study suggested another study on factors influencing work environment in private companies in Kenya.Item INFLUENCE OF URBANIZATION ON THE SOCIAL WELLBEING OF MAASAI COMMUNITY: A CASE STUDY OF KITENGELA MUNICIPALITY, KAJIADO COUNTY(management university of africa, 2024-11) DAVID AKILIMALI CHIPINDEUrbanization is a global phenomenon with far-reaching implications for communities worldwide. In the case of the Maasai community in Kitengela Municipality, Kajiado County, Kenya, urbanization presents a complex challenge. As Nairobi expands, changes in land use, population growth, governance, and socioeconomics affect the traditional pastoralist lifestyle of the Maasai. The purpose of the study was to assess the effects of urbanization on the social well-being of the Maasai community in Kitengela Municipality, Kajiado County. The study examined four specific objectives: to determine the effects of changing land use, changing tenure systems, population growth, and cultural practices on the social well-being of the Maasai community. The study was anchored on the Ecological Modernization Theory, which provides a framework for understanding how societies balance economic development with environmental and social sustainability. The study employed a descriptive research methodology with a target population of 234,000 persons. response rate. Data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS. The major findings revealed that 94% of respondents reported significant changes in traditional land use patterns, 86% noted increased individual land ownership, 87% indicated increased in-migration, and 88% reported declining traditional language fluency. Correlation analysis revealed strong positive relationships between all variables and social well-being (r = 0.65, p = 0.001), while regression analysis showed that all independent variables significantly predicted social well-being (p < 0.05), with the model explaining 72.6% of the variance (R² = 0.726). Based on these findings, the study concluded that changing land use patterns have significantly altered traditional pastoralist practices, increased individual land ownership has transformed communal land management systems, population growth has intensified pressure on available resources, and cultural practices are experiencing substantial transformation due to urbanization. The study recommends establishing participatory land use planning processes, developing policies that protect both individual and communal land rights, implementing sustainable infrastructure development to support population growth, and creating cultural preservation protocols that integrate traditional practices with modern urban life.Item THE IMPACT OF STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON PERFORMANCE OF PUBLIC SERVANTS IN COUNTY GOVERNMENTS A CASE STUDY OF MACHAKOS COUNTY(management university of africa, 2024-04) ANNASTASIA MGHOIThe main objective of this investigation was to examine the impact of strategic human resource management practices on performance of public servants in county governments, a case study of Machakos County. Specific objectives include; To examine the impact of strategic career development opportunities on performance of public servants in county governments, to determine the impact of strategic employee training on performance of public servants in county governments and to examine the impact of strategic employee compensation on performance of public servants in county governments. The study used descriptive research design. The target population for this study was all human resource personnel in Machakos county government. The research employed census technique to select the sample for the study. A questionnaire was used in this study to get information from the participants. To make data analysis easier, the SPSS Version 26.0 tool was be employed. Descriptive statistics including averages, standard deviations, frequencies, and percentages were used in the data analysis. The data was shown via tables and conversations. The study comes to the conclusion that a career skill development, Employee Training and Employee Compensation are a significant factor influencing how well county government employees perform as public employees. A recommendation is made for the need of the u county governments to establish and formulate fair programs for developing skills and to encourage staff participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops. Researcher suggests that Machakos County make an efficient financial strategy and budget to be able to provide sufficient pay packages. The study suggested that the training term be extended in order to maximize the effects of instruction on public servant performance. The report suggests conducting more research on Organizational structure's impact on public employees' performance in Machakos County.
