Item FACTORS AFFECTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN LEARNING INSTITUTION IN KENYA: A CASE STUDY OF CHRISTIAN INDUSTRIAL TRAINING INSTITUTE(MUA, 2019-07) DOROTHY W NJIRUThe purpose of this study was to determine the factors affecting the implementation of quality improvement in learning institution in Kenya with reference to Kenya Christian Industrial Training Institute. This study was to be guided by the objectives which are: management commitment, financial resources, internal auditing and organizational culture. The significance of the study was to the management of Kenya Christian Industrial Training Institute, Government, and other manufactures and future researchers. The study adopted descriptive research design. The target population for this study was 109 employees which involved a sample size of 44 respondents. Data to be collected through questionnaire that was to be distributed to the respondents and to be analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods and later presented through tables, bar graphs and pie charts.Item THE IMPACT OF DISCO MATANGA ON EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN KILIFI COUNTY.(Management University of Africa, 2019-07) CHRISTOPHER KAMBI MUMBAThis research study sought to analyze the impact of disco Matanga amongst the spheres of school going children in Kilifi County following an outcry of how enrolment of students in primary school within the county. Also, the educational performance of these students was a concern, and these were key aspects of the study. It thus had such objectives as to determine the level of enrolment of pupils in schools within Kilifi, to identify the effects of disco Matanga on academic performance as well as to provide for recommendation on academic performance in primary schools in Kilifi. This study has shown great significance to the Kilifi County Government on matters of education within the county. Also, other researchers would benefit from this piece of work while making references to it. The descriptive research design and sampling techniques in which 80% of the entire population formed the sample size and thus the study used primary and secondary data to analyze the data for accurate findings to be gathered. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis were deployed for clear interpretational and description of data. The key recommendation of this study was total involvement of stakeholders, the pupils, parents and the school management should be empowered to take up their position and see into it that learning is smoothly facilitated. Such other recommendation included burning disco Matanga within the county, providing for motivational avenue to pupils who do well in school and have their academic standard improved.Item FACTORS INFLUENCING THE UPTAKE OF HEALTH INSURANCE AMONG KENYAN LOW INCOME CLASS IN KENYA: A SURVEY STUDY OF KOROGOCHO SLUMS RESIDENTS, NAIROBI(MUA, 2019-09) GRACE NJERI KAGIRIHealth insurance has been considered as key to achieving universal health care by various countries. This is with the aim of ensuring that every citizen should have access to needed healthcare services that are effective and of acceptable quality and that no one should risk financial ruins as a result of illness. However, recent statistics still indicate that in Kenya, currently 26.6% of total health expenditure is out of pocket. Out-of-pocket spending on healthcare has been found to drive the poor into more poverty and poses a barrier to their access to healthcare. This study aimed at determining factors influencing the uptake of health insurance among Kenyan low income class in Kenya: a survey study of Korogocho slums residents, Nairobi. The objectives of the study were to determine the extent of uptake of health insurance among Kenyan low income class in Kenya in Korogocho slums resident in Nairobi County, to determine the factors influencing uptake of health insurance, the preferred type of health insurance scheme between private and public health insurance and the level of satisfaction for those already having health insurance cover. The independent variables in this study were socioeconomic factors, the available health insurance providers, the preferred health insurance provider and client’s satisfaction. The dependent variable for the study was uptake of health insurance which was determined by the extent of health insurance uptake. The study was carried out in Korogocho slums in Nairobi County. The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The sample size was (n=384) which was determined through the formula n = Z2p(1-p)/d2. Respondents were sampled through stratified random sampling method where eight hospitals formed the stratum. Data was collected by use of self and researcher administered questionnaires by the researcher for a period of two weeks. Collected data was analyzed using SPSS version 20 to draw both descriptive and inferential statistics. Uptake of health insurance was found to be 46.1% majority of them being those employed in the formal sector, and also majority being covered by NHIF. Level of knowledge on health insurance was found to be 52.6%, which could be a major factor contributing to low uptake.Item FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO STUDENTS POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN DAY HIGH SCHOOLS IN NAIROBI: (A CASE STUDY OF MAKINI HIGH SCHOOL)(MUA, 2019-09) OGOMBO DOROTHYPerformance of students is a product of socio-economic, psychological and environmental factors. It was interesting to note that several studies made on factors that influence academic performance in public schools; socio-economic factors such as parents’ net income, wealth & education background, lack of adequate teaching material, equipment and other environmental factors like location of schools. On the other hand, in private schools, the cost of education is high; the schools are fully equipped and have up-to date teaching materials hence parents are committed to meet these high costs hoping that this is enough to ensure that high performance, sadly not the result. The purpose of the study was to examine the factors contributing to poor student academic performance in Day High Schools. Objectives selected; to find out the influence of on Student Attitude, Motivation, Home environment and Life skill on academic performance of students in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations. The study used Makini High School, a mixed day-secondary school, because of its easy access and the presences of both male and female gender of the population all form four students. Descriptive survey research design was used to explore factors influencing student academic performance. The data was collected from questionnaire administered to students and quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics such as means, frequency counts and percentages. The findings on attitude and motivation slightly above half mark could imply that students could be impacted from the home environment – lack of adequate parental support and close monitoring as well as week life skills. Life skills training of student as per of the educational curriculum is recommended.Item A RESEARCH PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO THE SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE AWARD OF THE DIPLOMA OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGMENT OF THE MANAGEMENT UNIVERSITY OF AFRICA(MUA, 2020-02) OWII ANYANGO JACKLINEThe purpose of this study was to find out the factors affecting inventory management in the hotel industry in Kenya: a case study of Silver Springs Hotel Nairobi. The study focused on four key objectives which included; effects of employee training, information technology, cost and internal control system on the inventory management in the hotel industry. The research utilized primary data. The source of data primarily adopted in order to create a room for high reliability of data acquired and also reduce the gap that may exist as a result of technological advancements leading to changes in the economies of scale. The primary data involved use of questionnaires and interviews (personal interviewing) to fill the gaps left. The target population used were employees working at the Silver Springs Hotel in Nairobi estimating about 100 employees. The respondents were drawn from the Top Department, Middle Department and the Support Staff Department since the inventory management efficiency was an issue that affects the entire organization. The sample size obtained was 40. The simple stratified sampling was used since the study involved several departments. Respondents from each stratum were selected using simple random sampling. Purposive sampling was also used to select managers who are directly involved in procurement of goods, works or services. The data analysis and processing utilized frequency tables which were generated to highlight the percentage scores and cumulative percentages for the variables of interest. For quantitative data, tabulated findings, calculated frequencies and percentages on each variable under study was used and then interpreted to make research findings. The information was then presented in form of table frequencies and percentages, pie charts, use of tables to present data. Quantitatively the response of 56% indicated that employee training affects inventory management while 44% indicated that it does not affect. 78% indicated that information technology affect inventory management while 22% indicated that it does not affect inventory control system management. According to the study, 78% of the total respondents indicated that cost affects inventory management while 22% stated that it does not affect. Based on the study, 67% indicated that internal control system affects inventory management while 33% on the other hand stated that internal control system does not affect inventory management. The results from the study have clearly indicated that provision of employee training, information technology, cost and internal control system would go a long way in enhancing business performance. It is recommended that organizations should continuously endeavor to use technology so as to undercut competition; hotels with lower costs can set lower prices that result in greater sales and profits and finally the management needs to understand that security is hygiene factor; when it’s there and inefficient, people hardly notice it at all.Item INFLUENCE OF ETHICAL LEADERSHIP ON EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT IN THE KENYAN AIRLINE INDUSTRY A Case Study of Kenya Airways PLC(MUA, 2020-04) FREDRICK ALUVALEThere is declining productivity of the airline industry in Kenya due to disengagement; devastatingly effecting on their productivity and significant impacting on the organizational performance of the airline industry. Consequently, the industryis losing between 5% and 15% of its annual sales revenue. Poor leadership decisions have been linked to poor employee involvement in the Kenya airline industry with most empirical literature indicating that ethical leadership has a positive significant effect on employee engagement. However, empirical evidences suggest that existing research on the influence of; leaders ' technical skills, personality traits, leadership credibility and empowerment behavior on employee engagement in the Kenya Airline industry is relatively limited. Therefore, it remains unclear whether the available ethical leadership programs are effective in stimulating the commitment of employees needed to achieve the desired level of employee productivity. Accordingly, this study seeks to close this research gap by assessing the influence of ethical leadership on employee engagement in the Kenyan airline industry. The study was guided by the following; adaptive and generative learning theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. This study, which adopted descriptive research design, had a target population of 1170 employees of Kenya Airways who were located in Nairobi. Using the formula by Mugenda and Mugenda (2003), the study obtained a sample population of 117 respondents, who were selected using simple stratified random sampling technique. The study collected data from primary sources using structured questionnaire, which was tested for validity and reliability before administration. Data was analysed using quantitative approach to produce descriptive statistics which was in form of frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 20.0 was used to help analyse the data. The study concludes that; technical abilities in ethical leadership highly influences employee engagement in Kenyan airline industry, personality traits highly influences employee engagement in Kenyan airline industry, empowerment behaviour highly influences employee engagement in Kenyan airline industry, and credibility (moral) traits highly influences employee engagement in Kenyan airline. The study recommends that Kenyan airline industry should; carry out a business reengineering processes to enhance the technical abilities of its leaders, review its human resource development strategies to ensure that their leaders adequately display responsive personality traits, equip its managers with training and skills empowerment through regular seminars and in house group meetings, empowers its managers and leaders with insights on moral traits.Item FACTORS AFFECTING WORK LIFE BALANCE AMONG WOMEN EMPLOYEES IN EDUCATION SECTOR A CASE STUDY OF USIU – AFRICA (UNITED STATE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY)(MUA, 2020-05) CATHERINE WAGUTTI NYAMBOKThere is lot of controversies about the work life balance. This research has tried to identify the work life balance of female employees of education sector. For the purpose of research, the data were collected from 40 female employees. The sampling was done through questionnaire and survey monkey within University. It has been coming out that female employees were facing lot of problems in balancing between work and life. Though they are able to balance their personal and professional life up to certain extent. The general objective of this study will be to establish factors affecting work life balance among women employees in education sector a case study of United State International University-Africa. The study will be guided by the following specific objectives: To establish the influence of individual stress factors on work life balance among women employees in education sector. The data will be presented by using tables and figures. SPSS (statistical software package) will be used to generate the descriptive statistics and to establish the relation between the dependent and the independent variables of study. The findings will act as a reference point to other researchers in the same field thus facilitating their studies the study findings will provide relevant information that will help the management of United States International University. Many retailers have had to adapt to engage in non-traditional marketing activities that include eMarketing. The use of e-marketing that include social media, digital advertising and e-marketing has gained ground significantly in Kenya and as a result many retail outlets and brands are adapting to the new changes and consumers preferences. Supermarkets are one of the retail outlets that are slowly taking up this change. This research aimed to find out the influence of e-marketing on consumer buyer behavior in Naivas supermarkets in Nairobi County. The study adopted descriptive cross-sectional study. The study utilized population of all Naivas supermarkets in Nairobi County. The research depended on data from primary sources that was gathered through the use of structured questionnaires. The study found out that social media, online marketing and email marketing positively influenced consumer buyer behavior. The study concludes that inquiries were received via social media about new and existing product. Promotions done via social media led to increased sales in Naivas supermarkets. Naivas Supermarkets had many site visits once a product has been launched. Online marketing attracted more customer and customers perceived online marketing as convenient mode of transaction. Use of email helped in customer retention and customer provided feedback on the email sent. The study recommends that policy makers in Naivas supermarkets ought to formulate strategies on better adoption of E-marketing. The policy makers ought to enhance the better usage of social media to market their products. Administrators ought to train their staffs on E-marketing mode of transactions. The administrators ought to ensure that their supermarkets launch new products by sue of social medias. Naivas Supermarkets ought to use e-marketing for easy awareness creation of products and services offered. Naivas Supermarkets ought to embrace e-marketing to save on cost and to create awareness of products via E-marketing platforms.Item INFLUENCE OF MOTIVATION ON PERFORMANCE OFLAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN KENYA: A CASE STUDY OF NORTHEASTERN AREA OF NAIROBI COUNTY(Management University of Africa, 2021-03) OBWOGI OKARI ALFAYOThe quality of law enforcement is a concern for every citizen because it affects all whether directly or indirectly. The main problem covered in this research study stems from security reforms done by the government that have not resulted in improved performance, but criminal activities have rather increased. The underlying challenges causing below-average performance have not been fully studied thus hindering the roles played by security officers. The study aimed to understand the relationship between motivation as an explanatory variable and performance as the dependent variable. The study purposed on finding out the impact's motivation has on the security sector by focusing on the County of Nairobi. Law enforcement in Kenya is primarily offered by the National Police Service organization. The rampart increase of crime against persons in Northeastern area in Nairobi is the problem to be investigated on how transactional leadership will help to carp the crimes. The mixed design used for this research encompassed exploratory, descriptive, as well as qualitative elements where the regular police were employed in the sampling frame. Information gathering from respondents was done by a questionnaire. Data analysis focused on performance of police officers and how it was attributed to motivation. The target population include police officers in charge of Northeastern area of Nairobi County, Sub-counties, police stations, police posts, police patrol Bases and the Government Administration representative at informal settlements. Questionnaires were subjected to a sample size of 184 respondents using purposive sampling techniques from selected police officers and Government administrators. The quantitative and qualitative data collected was analyzed by use of SPSS (the Scientific Package for Social Sciences) and Microsoft spreadsheet. The result indicates that, insecurity occurs because of increased unemployment rates, illicit brew, drug abuse and trading. working harmoniously with the police service. From the findings, measures put in place by the Government of Kenya to provide security to the citizens are good, but luck the aspect of proper policies and follow up procedures to motivate the primary law enforcers. The recommendation of the study is that the government of Kenya together with involved stakeholders should provide enough motivation to the police in order to enhance them performance and the delivery of services.Item EFFECT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS ON ENHANCING CUSTOMER SATISFACTION: A CASE STUDY OF POSTAL CORPORATION OF KENYA, NAIROBI BRANCH(MUA, 2021-03) YASMIN HUSSEIN SALADService value today has turned out to be not only the rhetoric of every organisation, but has also occupied a prominent position in every discourse and or research study. No business organisation can survive without satisfying its customers hence the study main objective was to determine the effect of public relations on enhancing customer satisfaction with Postal Corporation of Kenya as a Case study. The study was guided by the following objectives, to establish the effects of customer service on customer satisfaction in Postal Corporation of Kenya, to establish the effect of staff competence on customer satisfaction in Postal Corporation of Kenya and to determine the effect complaints handling on customer satisfaction in Postal Corporation of Kenya. The study was anchored on the following theories: Attribution Theory and Systems theory. The literature review indicated that the Public Relations makes organizations more effective by building long-term relationships with strategic constituencies, and more specifically, by developing relations with stakeholders in the internal or external environment that constrain or enhance the ability of an organization to accomplish its mission. The researcher adopted descriptive survey design with quantitative and qualitative methods. The researcher targeted senior staff, middle-level staff and lower staff of Postal Corporation of Kenya, Nairobi Offices. The target population was 150 respondents. The researcher used Slovene’s formula and computed the same on each category of employees to obtain a sample size of 55 respondents. The study involved collection of data using both primary and secondary data collection method. The primary data was collected through the use of questioners which was self-administered. The data analysis procedure involved the use of quantitative techniques whereby the information to be dealt with was derived from the questionnaires. The following techniques of analysis and interpreting data was used: Tabulation, Bar graphs, Pie charts and Percentage. The researcher established that Customer service at Postal Corporation of Kenya exceeds Customer Expectations. The findings indicated that the Staff competence enhances customer orientation at Kenya Postal Corporation. The findings indicated that Complaint Management practice has enhance customer satisfaction in postal corporation of Kenya. The researcher concluded that In order to provide higher quality services users’ perceptions should be higher than expectations. The researcher concluded that Staff competence enhances customer orientation at Kenya Postal Corporation the findings also indicated that Staff competence enhances Commercial Friendship at Postal Corporation of Kenya. On Complaints handling it was concluded that Customers, complaining directly with high expectations over a firm, are still in the hope of changing and unwilling to abandon the firm immediately. The study recommends that stronger communication mechanisms should be installed and well integrated in the system to ensure easier and convenience in dissemination of information to the public which would satisfy the rest of the stakeholders of Postal Corporation of Kenya. The study recommends that Postal Corporation of Kenya should devise ways and means to maintain a long-term commitment with clients so as to spur customer satisfaction.Item THE EFFECT OF PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL PRACTICES ON EMPLOYEE’S PERFORMANCE: A CASE OF KENYA PORTS OF AUTHORITY, NAIROBI COUNTY(MUA, 2021-06) IMRAN SUROW AHMEDThe purpose of this study was to examine the results of the performance appraisal of the performance of Kenyan Port Authority staff in Nairobi County. The concept that led to this study was a goal-oriented theory and a constructive teaching theory. The primary purpose of the study was to obtain goal setting, training and operational feedback on staff performance. The review of the theoretical structure was carried out in accordance with the research differences and the conceptual framework was developed in accordance with the research objectives. The targets were employees of the Kenya Ports Authority and that is why the data was collected from KPA employees according to the study's findings. The study took a descriptive research design. A descriptive investigation was about finding out what, where and how things happened. The main sources of data to be used were queries. Research experiments are conducted to ensure the legitimacy and reliability of the equipment. The data collected was analyzed, summarized and recorded using the SPSS software 25. Descriptive statistics included the use of general tables, scoring charts, charts and percentages while statistical calculations involved the use of multiple retrospective analyzes. a fall. The results of the study revealed that performance management systems had a positive impact on the performance of the Kenya Ports Authority staff. Close to half of the businesses fail after operating for a short while. This kind of failure unfortunately does not only affect new players; it also affects old and already established businesses hence the purpose of this study examined the factors affecting establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County. The study was guided by the following specific objectives; to determine the effects of access to capital on establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County, to explore the effects of government support on establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County and to determine the effects of managerial skills on establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County. This study was anchored by the following theories; Resource Based View and Positive Accounting Theory. The research design for this study was descriptive research design. The target people of the study consisted of SMEs taxpayers in Starehe, Nairobi County. This population was targeted to give comprehensive information that was significant for analysis and explanation of the data. The study population comprised of 373 SMEs within Starehe, as per the Nairobi County register. The sampling technique that was used in this study is stratified random sampling. The researcher used questionnaire as a tool for data collection. The questions presented to the respondents were closed ended questions. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. This study used both primary and secondary statistics, also used quantitative and non-quantitative methods to conduct the analysis of the results. The data analysis procedure involved the use of quantitative techniques whereby the information to be dealt with was derived from the questionnaires. The quantitative technique was used in employing statistical methods such as the ones listed below: The following techniques of analysis and interpreting data were used: Tabulation, Bar graphs, Pie charts and Percentage. Multiple regression analysis was used to establish the factors affecting establishment of SMEs in Starehe, Nairobi County. The findings revealed that Access to capital has a positive influence on Establishment of SMEs in Starehe in Nairobi County. The results showed that Government support practices have a moderate influence on Establishment of SMEs in Starehe in Nairobi County. Majority of the respondents agreed that Managerial skills had a negative influence on Establishment of SMEs in Starehe. The study concludes that Access to capital, Government support and Managerial skills have significantly affected Establishment of SMEs in Starehe in Nairobi County. This study recommends that the central government work with private sector financial providers to address the challenges facing SMEs in terms of access to finance. The role of government funding in resolving the financial crisis facing SMEs is a matter of controversy that needs to be thoroughly investigated. It is therefore important to examine the effectiveness of the electoral system in Kenyan literature and to look at the progress made in promoting fiscal reform by SMEs.Item EFFECTS OF STRATEGIC PLANNING ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE: A CASE STUDY OF KENYA PORTS AUTHORITY(management university of africa, 2021-09) NAJMA TAWANE ABDIThe study’s main objective was to establish the effects of strategic planning on organizational performance, a case of the Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County. The study was guided by the following specific objectives: To establish effects of strategic planning practices on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County, to determine the effects of innovative strategy on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County, To find out the effects of strategic leadership on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County and to determine the extent to which strategy evaluation on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority, Nairobi County. The literature review indicated that’s that lot of research has been done on strategic planning in sampled state corporations but the researcher has found none is a publicly available survey focusing on a number of state corporations rather most researchers have chosen corporations for a case study and this makes their findings prone to errors associated with low sampling. The target population of this study consisted of 126 employees of Kenya Ports Authority in Nairobi County. The researcher will use 30% of the target population to obtain a sample size of 38 respondents. Questionnaires will be administered to employees who will be selected using the convenient sampling technique. The secondary data will be gathered from reading books, journals that contain information that is related to effects of office conflict management on the performance of Kenya Ports Authority. The qualitative data from secondary sources will be analyzed using content analysis and logical analysis techniques. The techniques of analysis and interpreting data such as: Tabulation, Bar graphs, Pie charts and Percentage will be used to present the findings. The findings of the study revealed that strategic planning influenced Kenya Ports Authority organizational performance positively. These findings were supported by the frequencies of the responses from the respondents which were presented in the form of percentages and mean scores. Further the finding was supported by the coefficient of determination (R square = 0.623) which shows that 62.3% of variations in organizational performance are explained by strategic planning. The study concluded that through implementation of the strategic planning, Kenya Ports Authority in Nairobi County has increased their potential of improving organizational performance. The study recommended that the management of Kenya Ports Authority should incorporate strategic planning practices in their organization. The study's specifically determined how the impact of job analysis on Ministry of Health performance, the impact of staff demand and supply forecasting on Ministry of Health performance, and the impact of employee retention planning on Ministry of Health performance. The respondents' data was collected using descriptive methodology research. The study's target population was 100 workers from the Ministry of Health In Nairobi County. The sample size of thirty workers, or thirty percent of the target population, was chosen using stratified random selection methods. Questionnaires were utilized to gather information. The information gathered was evaluated using average weighted and percentages, which were then displayed in frequency charts and tables. According to the findings, the business uses job analysis questionnaires regularly. Job analysis at the workplace improves the company's competitive edge. Internal promotion is the most important element examined by the business in employee supply forecasting, whereas demand for products and services is the most important factor considered by the Ministry of Health in employee demand forecasting. Employee demand forecasting assists the business in addressing current and future people requirements. The main factor of a successful staff retention strategy in the business is an attractive pay package. The company's retention strategy is heavily influenced by support for personal and professional growth. The company's competitive edge is boosted through retention strategy. The researcher concluded that staff retention planning, demand-supply forecasting, and job analysis all have an impact on the success of a company. Companies should have well methods to operationalize them and well-documented human resource strategies, according to the recommendations. To gain their commitment and support, senior management must be educated about the potential effect of human resource planning .Organizations should establish career development standards and require each employee to create expressive discrete answerability plans that evidently outline their ambitions and professional goals in accordance with the rules.Item FACTORS WHICH AFFECT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AMONG WOMEN IN WESTERN KENYA: A CASE STUDY IN KERICHO COUNTY(Management University of Africa, 2021-09) MOHAMED ABDINOOR DAHIRThis study seeks to throw more light on the effects of socio-cultural factors in the management of sexually related and gender-based violence (SGBV) against women in Kericho County, Kenya. The following objectives are used to guide this study: (i) Establishment on how domestic violence affects women and families in the region. (ii) Explanation on the cultural norms used to manage Sexual and Gender Based Violence. (iii) Examination on how the Government is involved in assisting domestic violence victims in the region. (iv) Identification of the necessary corrective measures being taken to stop and ensure that violence does not recur. The study includes questionnaires, one-on-one interviews and a case study used to conduct the research. The target population for this study is the people living in Kericho County, facing domestic based violence. The study settled on census sampling to carry out the research. The selected size sample for this study was one hundred and fifty respondents. In this study, the data obtained was done by applying descriptive statistical tools and SPSS software. The results accumulated were expressed in a format involving percentages and statistical methods. The obtained information in the work, gathered from the view of many professionals, is important to the Government of Kenya (Gok) in the implementation of planning programs. Based on the survey results, the researcher came to a conclusion that the rehabilitation programs, resulted to moderate impacts on violence against female community. Victims of domestic based violence was financially supported and empowered, and plans were made to provide temporary shelters for the victims. However, interviewees said that not all the services provided were free. Most of the victims said that they were charged some fee in order to get such services, which resulted in most of them not participating. Educational interventions, such as raising awareness, social gatherings and media, educated the victims more about domestic violence. Members of the society stigmatized victims of gender-based violence and this made them feel uncomfortable. Group interventions, such as couple counseling and the management of short temper and anger, were found to offer solutions on the short-term, while on the other hand free legal advice helped victims exit abusive marriages much faster. Services available for survivors of domestic violence 4 were a challenge. This was because there are not many attorneys' providing free legal advice which limited the number of victims assisted.Item GAMBLING ADDICTION AS A DISEASE AMONG THE YOUTH: A CASE STUDY OF KITENGELA TOWNSHIPS, KAJIADO COUNTY(MUA, 2021-09) FRANCIS PEREGambling among youth is a growing public health concern. Similar to adults, research reveals that gambling among the youth can lead to adverse outcomes such as strained relationships, delinquency and criminal behaviour, depression and even suicide. The broad objective of the study was to investigate gambling addiction as a disease among the youth, with a special focus to Kitengela Townships, Kajiado County. Specifically, the study outlined the social factors, explore the cultural factors, investigate the motivation of gambling behaviours and investigate how education affects gambling behaviours among the youth at Kitengela Townships, Kajiado County. The study employed a descriptive research design and targeted the unemployed youth aged between 18 -35 years both male and female from to Kitengela Townships, Kajiado County. The primary data was collected using structured questionnaires in this study. Data coding, entry, and modification are all part of the data analysis process. The research used both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, each requiring its own set of procedures. For quantitative data cleansing, coding was used to identify mistakes, omissions, and inconsistencies, which will be followed by a data entry procedure using the Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) (SPSS version 24.0). The study found out that Slightly over half of the respondents (54%) who participated in the study were female, majority of the respondents (63.1%) were aged between 20- 25 years and majority (87%) of the respondents indicated that they had ever placed a bet. On gambling addiction as a disease among the youth at Kitengela Townships, Kajiado County, 56.9% and 35.4% of the respondent indicated that culture influenced their betting behaviour; society supported betting (55.4%); bet because they were sports. The study revealed that gambling among youth was high. The major motivation for gambling was monetary gain. Many youths wanted to strike it rich without working hard for the riches. This could be due to distorted cognitions especially perceived from their significant others, peers as well as the promotional advertisements in the media. Prevention strategies should be developed to deal with gambling problems. Primary interventions would be targeted towards prevention of development of gambling problems. Secondary interventions should target those that are at risk, or who display probable gambling problems. Tertiary interventions would deal with those who are already addicted and need treatment. Gambling promotional adverts in the media should be banned completely. Banning these adverts would reduce some of the influences and acceptability that is generally evident in the public. Alternatively, gambling advertising should be restricted by ethical laws similar to what happens with tobacco and alcohol. Therefore, it's worthwhile to study the Problem of the impact of employee relations on organizational productivity in a broader sense. This mainly deals with the impact of employee relations on organization productivity by Identifying and understanding the relationship between the independent variables of key indicators of organizational productivity. Responses gathered from the staff were analyzed to bring out findings, conclusions and recommendations for this study. In relation to this study, the descriptive design research was chosen as the appropriate one. Data was gathered from both primary and secondary sources of information. Data was collected by use of questionnaires and reliability of research instruments was tested using test-retest technique and validated by experts in the academic research. Stratified random sampling and simple random sampling was used to collect the sample size of 28 respondents. The data was analyzed and collected by descriptive statistics; simple frequencies and percentages. From the research findings it was concluded that there is a strong positive relationship between the independent and dependent variable which indicate a greater impact from employee relations towards the overall productivity. The most valuable recommendation given is to treat employees with great care.Item EFFECT OF LEADERSHIP STYLE ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE AT UNGA GROUP LIMITED IN NAIROBI COUNTY(MUA, 2021-10) DERRICK CHOMBA WACHIRAThe objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of different leadership styles on the performance of employees at UNGA Group Kenya. The study employed survey descriptive design. The target population was 323 employees of UNGA Group Limited in Nairobi County. The study used simple random sampling to select 155 employees to participate in the survey. The study relied on primary data. Data collection was performed through the use of structured questionnaires. The study also indicated that the existing type of leadership in selected UNGA Group affected the employee’s performance both positively and negatively. Finally, the study found that there are various measures that can be used to address the negative effects caused by the existing type of leadership. Despite implementation of such strategies for the purpose of improving operational performance, the expected results have not been attained. Time without numbers, citizens and general public has expressed concern in relation to the elements that influence service delivery by county leaders. The current study aimed at investigating the relationship between leadership and operational performance of county governments in Kenya; a case study of Garissa County. The specific objectives were; to determine impact of leadership skills on operational performance, to investigate influence of leadership styles on operational performance and to assess the role of ethical leadership practices on operational performance of county governments in Kenya; a case study of Garissa county. The study adopted descriptive research design. The study target population consisted of 2611 staffs from 10 departments within Garissa county government. The researcher employed 10% of the total population as the sample size which constituted of 261 respondents for the current study. Study employed questionnaires as the research instruments. The researcher adopted drop and pick method during data collection to allow sufficient time for response by respondents. Statistical Package for Social sciences (SPSS version 23) was used for data analysis purpose. Data was presented in form of graphs and tables.
